Picked this up on ebay last week and it arrived today. The seller had this listed as an "Antique German Cavalry Officer's Saber" which is not wrong but misses the unique nature of this sword. It is a saber that is unique to the 2 Mecklenburg-Schwerin Dragoon regiments (nrs 17 and 18), they were the only one's that had that type of guard with the steel bars. This one is a private purchase officer's model. This is no dainty parade sword, is patterned very closely after the enlisted model (See the page from Herr & Nguyen) and was made to carry in the field. Made by Clemens & Jung it has a gorgeous Damascus blade with a nice visible pattern. The outer bar on the guard appears to have been crushed in at some point so it's not mint. While not dirt cheap it came for a small fraction what dealer's sell these for. There are some gems on ebay, buried amidst all the cheap knockoffs and grossly overpriced junk. Cheers!

Another Excellent find! Congratulations!

That's rare to find one of these, let alone having it nicely issue marked! That's the icing on the cake!

Best Wishes,

Alan
