Meybauer Mystery

Lost Skeleton

Screwback madness continues. Here are two vaulted Paul Meybauer screwbacks. D.R.G.M. 653146 identifies them as Meybauer, and both are three piece screwbacks, yet, they are noticeably different. The most obvious explanation is the EKs were made using different tooling, but why? Were they manufactured years or possibly decades apart? The second example, though lavishly stamped, displays very poor core details. Was gibst?

Chas: Very nice screw back EK1s. As I mentioned in my post on the other screwbacks, is it possible that MeyBauer got the iron planchets from an outside vendor(s)?

:? Hi; can anyone give me a history of Meybauer, when he started making badges and did he specialise in making only certain ones [retired pilot, naval sea plane, etc.]? I'M CONFUSED AS TO WHAT TO LOOK FOR ON HIS BADGES! Also while on the badge topic; I have a WW1 Bulgarian observer badge, .800 on the pin, I'm wondering if they were ever maker marked and if not were most of them made in Germany?? Thanks Dick
