Moro Armor and Helmet

This was quite a find - a suit of Moro armor and matching helmet. This is actually the third set of Moro armor that I've bought, but the first one that is made of brass rather than hide. From my research this likely was for someone of means. It is less ornate but brass would have been harder to obtain than hide.

This is also the first Moro helmet. This is truly a keeper for me!

This could be anywhere from early to late 19th century. This would have been worn during the Moro Rebellion (1899-1913), after the U.S. acquired the Philippines. Moro armor isn't really that rare. There is a lot of it out there and it was used for a while. A lot of came back with U.S. soldiers from 1899 to 1947. The helmets are a lot harder to find actually.

This armor is heavy and the brass plates at the top are very thick. Probably not stopping bullets thick but close! The helmet has no padding or liner. I imagine you'd suffer a concussion if you got hit with a club. You'd live but with a major headache!
 
There is a real Spanish influence to be seen in that helmet. I believe the term is Morion for this style, again a very nice find.

Yes, it is based on the Morion helmets of Spain. I don't imagine there are all that many of these out there.
