My opinion on a unit mark

I have gotten this question now five times so I thought I would give you my two cents worth. No one ever said I am right.

This seems to be a pretty popular question.
Yes there was a guard Landwehr. It changed over time and was quite a bit different than the other regions. However, they never deployed. It was too much of a mess to consider in the mobilization calendar so the resources were split up and sent elsewhere.

The entire concept of corresponding active regiment seems entirely to be wrong. Even in a normal Bezirkscommando it did not work that way. The question as to the helmet fittings would be applicable to prewar exercise units. And that matters on who produced and stored their helmets. I really do not know.

Now to make things more complex what might be considered easily a Landwehr Eagle is germane only to the officers. That same eagle was used on the enlisted side for both Landwehr and reserve units. The one that I have been getting questions about has a marking of GLR and is felt. With the date of 1915 it only makes sense for a reserve unit not a Landwehr unit.

I hope this helps a little bit –
