Naval caps on western front

Were naval troops serving on land on the western front (IE Matrosen Division) issued field grey sailor caps? If so , can anyone post a photo of one? Thanks.

Note the place connection of the piping on one of the caps.
The connection is not from the back but from the side - is this normal?
