My name is Greg. many of you might know me from the WAF and GMIC
forums. I have come here to learn a little about Pickelhauben. I have
a collection of Imperial EKs and want to add a spike or two to the display.
I have spent a couple months trying to learn what to look for in my first
helmet so I don't buy something I will regret later. Tony suggested I join
here. ---- So here I am. A newbie to helmets, just trying to learn what
I can.

Greg

Welcome Greg! Tony is right and it will save you many headaches to ask questions first before you buy. This is a pretty friendly place and everyone learns from questions regardless of how basic. So come on in the water is great! :D :D :D

Welcome Greg
You are doing the right thing to learn first and then buy, many of us have learned from our mistakes, and you should too (learn form our mistakes, not yours).
My favorite is the stink common Prussian M1915, it doesn't get as much attention here, because it is already pretty well understood, although new maker's marks and unit marks will still spark interest.
Best wishes
Gus

Thanks for the kind welcome.
I have a very small budget to work with so I am sure that I will settle
on a common Prussian helmet. However I want an officers model with
brass trim and chin scales. My goal here is to learn enough about them
to tell real from fake and to not completely over pay for helmet. I hope
I do not bore you with really dumb "newbie" questions.

There are other helmets that really catch my eye but I can not afford.
Such as an I.R.92 (I know--completely out of my reach and I would
have to fight Tony over it) I also saw a Wurtemburg with silver trim
that was very sweet.

Thanks again,
Greg

And you would be crushed.... :cussing:

Anyhoo, I nabbed your avatar from the WA forum and loaded it up for you. if you want it changed, just use your control panel. T

Greg- welcome to the forum!

I see you are in Wisconsin, I am in Minnesota, but go to Wisconsin often for work!

If you get a chance, PM me, would like to know where you are at and maybe someday we can meet.

Again welcome

James

Hey Greg,
Watch out for those fellows from Minnesota, they play by a different set of rules, did you know that you can be arrested in Minnesota for tapping you toes?
Gus

I will be at the MN.State fairgrounds show in September. I look forward to
meeting any and all members. I go every year. I hardly buy anything
but in the last 20years I've been going, I have made some friends and
get to talk with other forum (WAF) members.

I live in Gods country but sneak into Minnesota everyday for work.
As long as you don't make eye contact and hide your wallet you are
usually safe :D

I'm sorry I must not have read that right. Did you say "Idaho" or
I don't think so.

Thanks again, guys.
