Nice Helmet ???? Opinions Please

Gday again, yes im still looking, what are your thoughts on this one. I have been reading and looking and asking lots. I must say I think im starting to see what is a fake now and passed on lots that have come up. But this one needs and expert opinion please. Thanks in advance Lyndon.

A decent camo with a liner is going to cost $500-$800, more for a spectacular one. Try to hit some shows and look at and handle some. As you know, fakes abound, some of them look real good. You might take a look at a shop called Great War Militaria. Don't know the address off hand, but they will come up on a search. They always have a bunch, and usually know what they are talking about. I went through their private museum some years back and was blown away.They had 20 or more camos hanging on the wall, and that was just a sideshow. If you have Baer's book on The History Of The German Steel Helmet, there is a photo of a beautiful camouflaged M1918 cut out. The exact helmet was in the museum. Be aware their prices can be high. You can certainly learn from them though. The one on ebay you are talking about looks nice, but I wouldn't go out on a limb giving it a thumbs up without handling it. It's also very expensive for what it is. Steve

Steve is dead-on with the price range for an original, but I have to disagree with the dealer suggestion That is one of the companies I warn new collectors to be VERY careful with. They have been known to sell fakes as originals.

Great War Militaria's main business is to re-enactors .They have been sell ing off the collection over the (at least ) 3 years .
Another dealer is Advanced Gaurd Militria .I have not purchsed anything from them yet but they are high on some stuff anf meium prised on others .
Tony the sold a German lance there a year ago for around $1000 .

:D I thought I sent you the second listing earlier ,I could be wrong.
They look O.K to me but I don't collect them yet and need to nrush up on patterns and fakes

Hey Lyndon,
I had a look around SOS for a camo helmet, but it seemed that most were nearly brown from lost pigment, the one you looked at on ebay with the whit lines on the front was there, the colours were too bright and it looked rather dodgy, I stand by my earler opinion, and it turned out to be on the table of a friend.

PS Advance Guard Militaria is a great place to find good items, they are a bit high on their prices as they know what they have, but their stuff is good.
