Hi all,
Received my garde helmet today and would like to ask a question pertaining to helmet from

Nr 5 Garde Regiment zu Fuss

Does it have silver star retainers or brass star retainers?

This helmet has a large silver eagle with round spike base, silver visor trim, silver rosettes, flat brass chinscale and silver smooth trichter with black hair bush. Leather liner instead of sweatband. Someone put a set of fake brass star retainers on it.

Regards and thank you

I do not have my reference books with me but I believe the stars are brass to match the contrasting brass chin scales.

Nope have to disagree Brian, I have the luxury of being home with books:)

Silver stars!! Brass scales are the only non silver metal parts on this helmet.

Amy- are you sure it is for the 5th? is it marked? Other Garde Zu Fuss regiments would have Brass stars and chinscales. Just not the 5th.

James

Helmet is not marked and it could be pioneer or eisenbahn which means it's silver stars. Based on the features, it's either G reg z fuss 1 or 5 and reg 1 has fluted trichter so mine would be a 5. I am looking at the book by turinetti, his pic of the reg 5 looks more like brass stars.

I was going off of Stubbs book Imperial Military Officers Helmets and Headress 1871-1918 page 95

I have Jim's book as well and see what you are seeing.

I then went to the bible of the hobby, Laine's book and it does show brass stars for this regiment, so someone is wrong, I am guessing Stubbs??

Jim is a friend and will be at SOS, we can hit him up on that question there to see what his thoughts are.

James

No I was correct and James's was incorrect....brass stars. Laine shows these and it is correct for this regiment. Bruno has also confirmed this. The severe cold has affected the minds from MN! :D

Met Jim Turinetti and confirmed it's brass stars. Already got my spare set and put on it. Thanks guys for the input
