Hey, it is actually is crushed velvet! I had no idea that this was used. I have only ever seen it on collars and the like, and always in black. Looks beautiful. The Litzen is also interesting, I would have expected fat bullion? This looks almost like the wartime Litzen. Do you have an officer's Tschapka John? Your chances are actually much high of finding an officer's they show up quite often. Saschen Mannschaften Tschapka, sadly, never seem to come available.

Yes Tony, I was quite surprised about the crushed velvet myself. At first I got a little apprehensive but this is definately pre WW1 tailoring.
I was was indeed looking for fat litzen and found this a bit odd. Your suggestion this could be wartime litzen is very interesting and I will have to do further research.
