As far as I'm concerned and in all humility, I am not pretending to educate anyone. I only share my passion for collecting and have far too much respect to use, let alone without permission, other people's photos to claim or assert publically this or that without any proof (this is for me an absolutely no go) and what is ultimately not true at all

I don´t pretend to know everything and I prefer to keep quiet before making peremptory assertions that I can't prove.

I can totally understand your position and point of view and must admit it's one of the reasons I don't post very many pictures on the internet which is sad but once an image is out there, we have absolutely no control of who takes it or how they choose to use it. Thats also one of the main reasons I'm not on any social media.

When someone with years of experience and a collection to back up those years adds something to a discussion such as a photo or their own observations and experiences on the topic it adds to the overall learning to the group as a whole.

While you're certainly not pretending to educate anyone believe me you certainly are and as a member of this forum, I really appreciate your many contributions.

I hope you guys can come to an understanding and shake hands in the end. I'm sure Clovis has only the best intensions.

Let's face it we are all looked at by 99.9% of the world as a bit strange for spending thousands on what is our shared passion. Hate to see two members of our collecting family not getting along. mfg John Josef

Hi, I hope I have now understood everything correctly, but I suspect that Philippe is mainly annoyed that someone is presenting an object from his collection as “falsified” * and I can understand that. (but in my opinion, this is probably more an unfortunately misunderstanding)

But I don't think there's anything wrong with using “other people's” pictures from the forum in a subject-related post.

I found my way here into the forum - because I found a picture from my collection in a post here. (I had shown the picture in another German forum).
But it was not a "bad thing" for me, because the picture was a good and important example for the topic and it helped to illustrate it.

If nobody shows anything anymore, then there's nothing left to see and nothing left to discuss! Nobody had really benefits from that!

Basically, I have nothing against using my photos to fuel a topic. On the other hand, I don't agree at all when one of my picts is used, or even here abused (without my permission) to declare a part as a copy, or even worse, as a forger's work! It has nothing at all to do with the object I've presented and that aims to draw a negative and unappealing conclusion towards my object in this particular case. This can also be called dissemination of false facts neither verified nor proven! As you all know, the objects we collect are not worth only a few peanuts!!
This kind of judgement is not based on any certainty, as no concrete proof has been provided of any artificial alteration here to this exact Oldenburg cockade. As I have it in my hand myself in context and know the provenance of this helmet, I take the liberty of very strongly doubting it. We're in the swampy realm of mere supposition here, which is a long way from any serious argumentation.

As I've already said, I'd be the first to be interested in seeing the results Clovis claims if he were to do the test of dipping the 15 Euro copy of the Oldenburg cockade (which he claims is the same on my helmet) in a brine, just to compare with the finish of mine.

And because I don't know everything and always want to learn more, I'd be delighted to see the cockades on the 5-6 EM Oldenburg helmets of Clovis' collection. They are surely references and would for sure help us to learn more

So the ball is now in Clovis' court!
