Another helmet I’ve had for many years. It escaped the “downsizing” as I have a weakness for metal cavalry helmets.
This example was made by C E Juncker in 1916. The spike and clover leaf style base along with the metal trim which were silvered in pre-war helmets have been chemically darkened although the Dragoon pattern Wappen is in the pre-war frosted silver colour.
The majority of these helmets seem to be found with the smaller kokarden. I suspect the originals were issued with large kokarden but my theory is the large Kokarden were often lost for reasons we all know about and replacements were of the smaller variety. The chinstrap on this helmet is quite difficult to remove which is probably why the large kokarden survived.
