The star looks like a recent addition.
Is it from a Lippe Fireman's helmet?

Hey Newbe,
From this seller's past rputation, this could be just about anything.

3rd Bn IR55 no way to tell from normal Prussian except the cockade. Bowman in volume 1 pg. 183 shows an example of a Lippe specific star burst helmet and tells where in Belgium he had found it. While controversey exists on these the consenus is police or fire helmet -- not military.

I would not buy from this seller. Kaiser Bill did a bunch of work on these helmet types. He ended up writing to the museum in Lippe. -- I do not think they are military -- nor did the museum. Hilsonbeck however on volume 1 page 31 show such a helmet and attributed to the ordnance officer of Lippe. I am unconvinced -- possible definitely -- I just do not see it. This particular example has a few problems.

It's an helmet from the gendarmerie (country police) of Lippe-Detmold. See Larcade vol. 1 p.81.

Regards.
