it is a fireman's helmet, appears to be missing chinstrap and rosettes to hold it on.

Yes fireman reissued spike helmet i think maybe, i am wrong not mine

I have bought those back in the day for a reasonable price so I could harvest the 8 original brass spike base brads which hold that fireman "comb" on. In my experience, that type were not converted hauben but made after the war and usually with a thick brass visor trim.
