I agree, a fake indeed. However, they're getting better (or worse as the case may be). I feel sorry for the winning bidder.

Hard to believe that with this forum and all the reference books out there that this gruesome fake is going for over 500 Eu. There is certainly one born every minute!
 
Crazy...with what I know, I could make a fortune on European Ebay sites selling crap like this. Of course, I would lose my reputation and self respect but this is ridiculous! There must be entire galvano collections out there in Europa where the guy thinks that crap was original in 1900.
 
You can't feel sorry for the guy who bought it. If he would have done an hour worth of research, he could have invested a lot better. People that buy this junk without researching basically dig their own grave. Imagine showing this helmet to an educated collector, they would have to hold back the laughter when they try to tell them how "original" it is.

We see this all the time, people who over bid on junk. oh well

I have a less definitive judgment as I imagine it can also be a wife/girlfriend/child buying a gift for the spouse or dad, and assuming he will be delighted... sad.
This being said I received spike helmets as gifts from lay people two or three times and each time I was very lucky!!
 
That is a legitimate scenario. I never thought of that as no one has ever given me one as a gift.
