Rare Helmet - Only used by 3rd Battalion

This Miter helmet was a historical helmet for the Prussian Army. This pattern was copied after the style used by soldiers of Prussian King Frederick the Great and was used by the 1st Guard Regiment for special parade dress. This helmet is ex Age of Kings and came from an old collection in the U.S.A.

The Miter helmet has a richly ornamented stamped silver front shield. The shield has a Royal Crown on top with the monogram FR for King Frederick. In the center of the shield is the Prussian Eagle above which you find the motto for the 1GRzF “Pro Gloria et Patria”. On top of the Miter is a white and yellow field badge (Puschal). The front shield is supported by a silver metal band with rich ornamentation. This band supports a yellow cloth bag “head covering" that is supported by the back of the front shield. The yellow cloth bag has white cloth piping. This cloth bag has several small 2mm moth nips (please view photos). A flat silver chinscale strap is mounted on M1894 side lugs. The chinscales do not appear to be original to the helmet (see photos). The left side M94 lug is also damage. Inside the helmet is a leather tabbed leather headliner like is normally seen in EM pickelhaube helmets. The liner is dry but is very good shape.

This helmet is more rare than that used by the 1st and 2nd Battalions (red bag). Outstanding and rare example of a historical helmet.

Unfortunately that is a replica. The easiest giveaway is the side piece fish scales, they are dots instead of proper fish scales. Also the front plate has flat balls; the real plates are rounded. Here's mine, vintage old stock from the UK (they also made the red bag version, both with side posts either on or in front of the cannonball) , next to a photo of a real one from Germaniainternational.com.

Ah, my bad. I just re-read your "Three Miters" thread:

You have the photo of the liner with the name tag for the Middle Mirte shown at the end of the photos with your 3rd Bat. (Fusilier Battalion) mitre, the yellow one, in the same posting #4 of your "Three Mitres" thread.

The one with the name tag is a red mitre. You have two red mitres/miters in your collection. My bad. I didn't even pay attention to the red interior of the mitre/miter, I was so focused on the liner with the name tag. Time for new glasses.

I Just compared it to MAPs one on Warelics and the one on Regimentals, and they appear to be of better quality in the metal work. As an observation. Rob

No, I have said nothing of the sort as to whether your miter is bad or good. I unfortunately made a terrible mistake by posting in #5 above, saying: "Is this the same liner you showed in your other thread "Three Mitres"? My sincere apology for making the mistake of posting this in #5 above.

For some unknown reason last night, I became confused toggling back and forth between the two threads, and hyper-focused looking at that earlier thread posting of the yellow miter. I did not initially even realize last night that the lone photo you show of a leather liner inside of the miter in that other thread is for a red miter in that earlier thread posting #4 which otherwise focuses on the exterior views of your yellow miter. I mistakenly thought the liner photo you show in that #4 post on your other thread post was for the yellow miter. I foolishly did not even look at the interior of that miter, other than to hyper focus on the leather liner and the name tag in it. It took me a while of toggling back and forth last night, for me to realize that the liners are two different liners in two different miters in these two threads, after I made the mistake of posting here in #6 above: "Is this the same liner you showed in your other thread "Three Mitres"? I finally realized that the liner photo in this thread and in your other thread are from two different miters. (Is that a foolish tongue twister of too many two's?)

I personally do not collect miters, and I do not collect busbies either. I do not know whether or not your yellow miter is original or not. I simply missed earlier with my looking back and forth between these 2-threads that I was looking at 2-different liners in 2-different miters that you have in your collection. I was so hyper focused that I did not even look further up in the interior of that miter photograph of yours that the miter was red. I simply was so hyper focused on looking at the leather liner and the name tag on the liner. It was my mistake in viewing your two threads, and the photos of what I now realize are 2-different miters with two different leather liners.

My mistake and apology for posting what I did in #5 above, causing you to think that I was "also saying the one in the sales thread is bad". I did not say it was bad. I simply made a bad comment post in #5 above because of my confusion and not realizing one liner is from a red miter in your other thread.

AOK only stated the ‘chinscales do not appear to be original to the helmet’
