I promised Tony some moths ago to post examples from my collection. Last month I did a JR95 officer helme with tall fashion spike. This month we have a Prussian Dragoon helmet for a fahnrich. This helme is totally officer except for the use of domed spike base brads instead of stars.

Note the size of this spike compared to last months JR 95. I have been told by Randy T that these shorter officer spikes indicate an older pre 1895 helme. Anyway she is a very nice piece purchased from an older collector years ago when I was first starting to collect.
 
Nice helmet! I wonder on the back spine -- the two lugs found on an enlisted helmet but not on officers. I have an OYV private purchase that has them and your Fahnrich does not -- I wonder if this was consistent?? Makes sense if it was.
 
Sorry Joe..no idea. All I do know is that this one and my Oldenberg dragoon officer does not have the rear studs either. I will put that particular helme up in June for the guys to have a look at. B
