Prussian Epaulettes?

Hi all,

I hit the local thrift stores today looking to score some militaria of some sort. However, what I did find I am a bit unsure of...I know little of epaulettes. I did not have a camera with me so I do not have an actual photo, but what I found looks a lot like this:

However, the pair I saw has the number 4. They were a deep red and had the gold fringe, and the brass. Can someone give me an idea as to their age and value? They were selling for $250.

If a photo is essential I will go back tomorrow and snap a picture. It was the kind of place where I don't imagine them selling too soon...it was filled with mostly people's grandmas. Given that I was recently burned buying what turned out to be an overpriced repro, I do not want to make the same mistake again (at least, not so soon...). :p

Take care,

-Daniel

Hi,

I went back and took a picture of the dress epaulettes; I will upload it this evening. Note I could not take pictures of the undersides, but FYI there was some light moth damage on the undersides of each. They did look genuine upon closer inspection, and appeared to be stuffed with some natural fiberous material. There were no tags or labels of any kind, nor markings other than the Number 4.

Opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Daniel!

John from Queens, NY here!

I really can't see the detail on the lace ribbon, however if I think my guess is correct it should be silver with blue highlights. That would mean that these epaulettes belong to a Major in the Bavarian 4th Infantry Regiment Konig Wilhelm von Wurttemberg.

At $250, they are priced a little high or about right, not really a bargain. Maybe you can wait them out for a better price.
