Picked up a nice picture of what appears to be a Garde officer. I can see the garde star on his sword and the outline of a garde wappen under his uberzug on the helmet. The foto is marked:
Rudolf Albert Erich v. Tiedemann Kgl. Pr. Obltn. Haus Labehn 1883-
1916. I am wodering what the "Haus Labehn" means and if anyone out there has some information on this nobleman. Brian

if I read that correctly, his name is "Rudolf Albert Erich v. Tiedemann", his unit was "Kgl. Pr." (seems odd, perhaps that mean the King's Prussians?), his rank was " Obltn." and the photo was taken at "Haus Labehn" (House Labehn) in 1883.

Well, all I have is the 1914 Rangliste, and, of course, there are no first names. I found several von Tiedemann's, but not sure any meet the criteria of this one.

I would interpret the Kgl. Pr. to mean he is a Royal Prussian Army officer, not from one of the other states.

The only Oberleutnant von Tiedemann's I find are in:

Garde-Kürassier-Regiment (2 of that name, one regular, one reserve)
Kürassier-Regiment Herzog Friedrich Eugen von Württemberg (Westpreußisches) Nr.5 (reserve officer)

On the chance that he started the war as a Leutnant and got promoted by the time the photo was taken I looked at Leutnants and there's only one. He was in Großherzoglich-Mecklenburgisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr.60.

Many thanks for all of your efforts guys. My foto definately indicates a Garde infantry officer of some sort. The pic has been framed by the dealer that sold it so I am going to have to take it out of the frame and seperate the foto from the matting and look on the back where I presume the info came from. I will also get a scan of the pic and post it so we can all have a look at the uniform. I may be able to use a magnifying glass on the shoulder straps and get some further clues. There are cyphers visible. Perhaps this will help to nail this down. All the best, Brian
