Interesting. My thoughts: Damaged and stitched; changed to a smaller size (doesn't make sense); converted from a recovered officer helmet. I like the first idea best. You never know what concussion / a guy falling or thrown to the ground can do to a leather helmet that is recovered and reconditioned.
