Prussian Ranklist Help Needed to ID Unit of Named Helmet.

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some assistance in finding an officer name in the Prussian Rank Lists. Any identification help/info would be greatly appreciated.

The penciled in name of the officer is one of the following: "Gerhard Ewald Reas" or "Gerhard Ewald, Reservist". I think that the proper full name is the first one of Gerhard Ewald Reas. He used "Gerd" as a shortened version of Gerhard in the named inscription.

My German friend at the S.O.S. believes that his last name is "Reas" and that his middle name is "Ewald. The helmet is a Reservist one. Thus our possible thoughts on "Res." for Reservist instead of "Reas" for his last name, as the old script handwriting is a bit tricky to make out on the last portion of his name.

Thank You to Anyone Who Can Provide Any Information!!!

Thanks for the info & assistance, I appreciate it.

Are any of the 16-listed having a first name of "Gerhard" or "Gerd"? And if there is one with the name of Gerhard, what outfit was he listed with?

I'm trying to find out what unit he was serving with. (He was with a Guard Unit/Regiment, and I'm trying to narrow it down as to which guard unit he served in. I know it was one of 5-different units that wore the same style of helmet, & I'd like to know which specific one he was with.)

Thank You!

Alan

Alan,

The rank lists don't contain first names, only the last names (unless there are two men with the same last name and rank in the same unit).

Alan: The name "Reas" does not appear in any of the following Prussian Army Rank lists: 1885, 1897, 1900, 1902, 1906, 1909 or the 1914-1918 Honor Rank List.

Here's one other possibilty for a last name: "Ries", not Reas. Any luck with that one? See my pic's of the name on my posting under "Latest Finds", "My First Guard Officer Helmet" to see if the guy's last name was Ewald, or "Ries". After I looked at the pic again, it appears to be either "Ries", or "Res" which I presume might be for Reservist .

The helmet was worn by one of these 4-units:

- 5.Garde-Regt. zu Fuß Garde-Korps (Spandau)
- Garde-Füsilier-Regt. (Berlin) Garde-Korps
- Garde-Pionier-Bataillon (Berlin) Garde-Korps
- Eisenbahn-Regt. Nr.1-4

******My question remains: was there an "Ewald" or a "Ries" that served in any of these 4-units in the Prussian Army, pre-W.W. 1? If there is, and it matches up, please, let me know, I'd appreciate it greatly! Does that help pinpoint an "Ewald" or a "Ries"? I'm trying to associate the name in the helmet with what unit the man served in. I hope this makes sense to everyone who's willing to try and help me in my search. *******

Thank you Mike, for letting me know they didn't use first names in the Rank Listings! Thanks again fellas, I appreciate your interest & assistance!

Alan

Of all of the gents named Ewald none matches up to your search exactly. There was, however, one reservist officer in the Landwehrbezirk I in Berlin. He might be your man.
