Quite a rare photos and it took the late Hans Rudolph von Stein to ID it for me from my photo collection (all of which I am selling). This shows recently deployed elderly men of the Prussian Schwere Reserve Reiter Reigment in East Prussia awaiting the onslaught of the Russian steam roller! Note they are wearing M1908 feldgrau Koller and old cavalry cross belts. They and the Landwehr marched to battle in obsolete uniforms and outdated equipment to fight the Russian Army and suffered heavy losses but succeeded in helping to stem the advance and in so doing played a critical role in late 1914.
