Prussian Wappen

I have translated the wording on my 1916 ORs prussian wappen, but have two questions to ask, which are

1. vaterland what does it mean my online translater says it means 'native country'. Is this really so?

2. the 'FR' in the middle of the eagle, what does it stand for?

Regards Allan

PS: do you wear gloves when handling your helmets or is this taking the hobby to far?

Thanks for the prompt reply, maybe it's too late here in Scotland but I can't see where it says what 'FR'means?

I am glad that I am not too cautious with my helmets as I collect WW1 'Brittish and Imperial German' memorbilia. I believe it is important that we look after such items so that we appreciate what what they went throught.

regards Allan

Third paragraph down:

"The line eagle Wappen (front plate) measured 125mm and carried a "FR" on the eagle's chest for most troops or "FWR" (Friedrich Wilhelm Rex) in a cypher for Grenadier Regiments."

Both meant the same thing, one was the initials, one was the cypher.
