Regimental Markings

Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble decyphering some Regimental Markings and would really appreciate some help.
The first one is a Baden Reserve Infantry haube.
At first I thought it was 1.B.R. (space) J.R.111 but I think it must be 1.B. (space) R.J.R.111
Does anyone have any idea what 1.B. means?
Thank you!

The second is a 105th Saxon infantry Haube.
Would the "03" mean Battalion and the "5K" 5th Kompanie?
Thanks again!

My humble opinion is the 1B RJR 111 may be 1st battalion Reserve Infantry Regeiment 111 , MAy also mean Bacarian RJR 111 .
The second helmet I think has the 03 for the date as the 5th Kompanie is 2nd Battalion .
Just my guess and I seem to bewrong with this stuff anymore

Hi Roy:
I agree with Mark....1B represents 1st Battalion. So on the Baden as you say, 1st Battalion Reserve Infantry Regt 111. On the Saxon I again I think that Zippy has got it right....105 Regt 5 Kompanie 111 (3rd) Battalion 1903. We often see the battalion done in Roman numerals. regarding the Baden helme, does it have a reservist helmet plate to match these markings? Not that it absolutely should, we all know from experience, that there were the official regs and then the way things really got done in a Regt that was trying to simply equip its men. Many thanks for the posting. I really think that we all should work on this thread. These markings provide the best clues to IDing our treasures. Brian

Hi guys,
Thanks very much for your help...I really appreciate it!
Brian, the Baden does have a reservist plate.
It certainly makes sense that 1B is 1st Battalion...what struck me as unusual is that the Battalion designation is typically stamped after the Regiment.
Regarding the Saxon helme, I was confident that it was 3rd Battalion, 5th Kompanie, but Marks indicates that the 5th K was in the 2nd Battalion?
Very challenging, these markings, and very interesting!

The possibilities seem endless! These are very interesting and give credence to what Brian said about starting a data base. I just don't have the unit keystrokes done. -- -- this is my opinion -- -- clearly not gospel just an opinion.

My vote is that the Saxon helmet shows the Regiment, the year (03) and the company. I agree with Tony that the III is a garniture mark.

The Baden helmet I think has a completely different meaning. Again this is just an opinion. I think it is very small 1 -- BR -- JR 111

It would be instructive to see the rest of the helmet. How old is it? It is distinctly possible that this represents company 1, Baden Regiment, Infantry Regiment 111. I have seen several examples of infantry Regiment 111. They have their markings in either white or black ink inside the helmet body. All of those marks were on M15 type helmets.

There are many examples of infantry Regiment 111 in the article

The abbreviation BR for just Baden Regiment does not quite convinced me instead of 3 BR. Another example! Lots of possibilities.

Mark and Joe are right; 03 stands for 1903. In fact this manner to write the two last digits of the year after the regiment number was specific to saxon helmets. Larcade wrote a note about this at the end of his vol.1.
