I am no expert on Steins, this is the only one I have, I tried to use R1's clues to real or fake that he just posted.

It passed some, some I do not know about.

You can feel the raised paint on uniforms and helmets as well as crowns etc.

The Lithopane has two figures and man and women with the man's arm reaching out to her, I tried like Hell to get a photo to work of this part, no real luck.

If it is fake let me know, I can accept it........

Hi James: Your stein is an original. The body with raised relief acorn & leaf bands is one of the more uncommon styles. The only problem the stein has is that the finial is missing from the lid. There would have originally been a soldier standing next to a seated lion on top of the lid. The following stein from the 10th Bavarian infantry is the same style as yours.

A trick for photographing the lithopane is to hold the stein with a bright light shining through the underside of the lithopane. Take your photograph through the top of the stein.

R1- thanks for the good news!

I also did not even think about the top being missing, but that makes sense!

Yours is very nice!

Thansk for the help.

James

A great stein James!! Hard to beat that old time craftsmanship involved in creating these. By the looks of the posts, I think we have another popular topic here. All the best, Brian
