Reserve infantry officer question.

Hi fellow collector friends, I am thinking about this reserve officer helmet, but need your opinions on it.
Looking on the inside, you see it has a hole behind the wappen, the interior of the helmet looks too good.
The liner I also have my doubts about..
Is it any good in your opinion?

Coert,

In my opinion, you should not invest in this helmet.

That isn't a small hole at the wappen plate but a rather large one. There is also that leather patch under the spike attaching plate that should not be there. Who knows what damage could be under there. Perhaps the helmet leather has severely dried out and this is holding it from completely collapsing.

I think the liner looks fine as well as all the other hardware but then this would be a very expensive parts helmet. I would hang onto my money until a better helmet comes along.

John

Thanks John,

I also saw that leather patch under the spike disc, there is also a leather band where the wappen posts are..
These 2 were part of my concerns about this helmet. It looks all good, but these things worry me. That hole is indeed really big.

Thanks for replying!

I am not sure exactly what I am seeing.
But on the inside it looks to be the flesh side of the helmet painted black.
Perhaps this helmet started life as a fireman's high ranking helmet that has been altered to a Line
Off's helmet.

Don’t buy it. I bought this as a parts helmet off German eBay a few weeks back and those parts are all sitting in a box in my workshop! I don’t know what this guy’s selling but it’s not the helmet in the pictures!!

Coert,

Looks like Garlan just saved your hard earned bacon!!!

Garlan,

Nice job looking out for us!!

Someone buy this man a beer!

John

Many, many thanks for the replies guy's, :bravo:

Especially Garlan, you sure helped me keep my money safe!
Later today, when I get back from work I will report the seller to Ebay Germany, where Kleinanzeigen is a part of.

Thanks again guy's! =D>

I usually take, take from the site asking (mostly) dumb questions, so It's nice to do something useful :)

I bought it for the metalwork, knowing there was a hole behind the wappen. The shell actually appears to be lacquered felt, very light, with composite/card/leather peaks. The leather reinforcing under the spike appears original (I had another like that a while back in the same colour). There is no reinforcing behind the wappen fixing holes (perhaps if ther had been the damage wouldnt be there :)) Be interesting to try a repair - it wont really show as its behind the wappen
There's a size button (56) on the rear spine fixing.
The chinscales are rounded so I'm guessing reserve train officer?
Unfortunately one of the chinscales is broken - had been superglued together (!!) so looked ok in the picture (typical) but theres plenty of info on rebuilding chinscales on the forum so that'll be a nice project for the long cold covid nights.
Keep safe guys

Thanks a lot Jeremy,
You sure helped me keep my money safe! :thumb up:
I just reported the seller to Kleinanzeigen.de. And told them how I found out that this was fraudulent.
I hope they do what I expect them, but knowing my experience with Kleinanzeigen.de, it will be fine.
Thanks again my friend! I have been bidding on another Arty M95 there today.
Have a nice week!

Greetings, Coert. :)

Cheers Coert
Hope you got the Arty M95. I see the the reserve train haube is STILL on German small ads - poor.
All the best

Hi Jeremy,
No, I didn't get the Arty I was bidding on, had contact with the seller, and we agreed a price we could live with.
But a few moments later the ad was removed, and I wasn't able to contact the seller anymore, no reactions unfortunately. :???:
I also saw the reserve haube is still there, but I did report it to them, including the link to this topic.
I get the impression both sellers are in fact the same guy, but with 2 names there..

Greetings, Coert. :thumb up:
