Returning Soldbücher to the troops, Wolfenbüttel, Jan 1918

Nice. Even so late in the war, some men still wear Pickelhauben sans spike. I wrote an article on this idea that collectors have of the introduction date of a piece of clothing did not mean the next morning everyone showed up wearing it. Manufacture and issue took years.

I've had the reverse translated. "Letzter Appell am Montag Morgen, Austeilen der Soldbücher und Erkennungsmarken"

- Last Monday's roll-call to distribute Soldbücher and identity-discs.

To add emphasis what Tony has said, it appears all the stahlhelms are M1916 / M1917, we can see the rivets for the M91 chin strap attachments.

Even more remarkable, use of the Gewehr 1888 in 1918, when the proverbial "common" knowledge has in the past suggested these rifles went into the furnace, or were sent to the Turkish allies.

Fantastic find! :bravo: =D> :salute:

Thanks for the transcription, Morgen had stumped me, but I expected a noun to be capitalized.

It should be. Maybe there's a wayward hyphen in there somewhere. I have managed to procure a second photo of this group on parade. The author records them as being Ersatz Abteilung 46.
