Reworked Pickelhaube into M1915

Hi

This Pickelhaube appears to have been re-issued wartime as an m1915 with grey metal work.

Under the fixing plate for the spike are the original marks for manufacturing date and unit allocation.

Odd marks and can't quite work the pattern of unit history...any help appreciated.

Hi Tony,
Looks like 17 IR, 1888, I.B. (1st Batl) to me, the other stamp I can't read. The location however is very strange, this unit marking would not have been visible underneath the support disc, which doesn't make sense for a unit property mark (but may be typically Bavarian?).

that's what I see as well Lars, but was also suprised by the location as it doesn't correspond with the usual markings placement and could only have been done before the helmet spike plate was a fixed.

The other stamp is 4C ??94 or possibly 4C 109 K ? neither make sense to me as 109 is a Baden.

Do like a mystery.....
