Saxe-Coburg-Gotha 95th Regt enlisted for Restoration

Here's another recent acquisition: 95th Regiment, 1st Battalion, 1906 & 1910 marked.

Named to an Unteroffizier on paper label inside forehead area of helmet.

The helmet frontplate has the eagle's head removed at the top of the "Furst" portion of banner. Not sure why the front visor trim is missing. Obviously this helmet has had a rough life. Maybe kids played with it?

I have a line on a couple of original kokardes for this helmet, and maybe an original frontplate as well. Not sure if it would take the enlisted pattern, or the NCO pattern kokarde of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha if the helmet owner was an Unteroffizier.

Another good find . I hope that you can find the parts .
I would try for a complete I R 95 plate .Leave the original
plate on the helmet .Hope the small Sax Duchie wappen
fits your plate .Maybe cut the eagles head form a line plate
and attach it to your I R 95 plate . Easy for me to say !

Nice piece - good luck with the project. I recently picked up a helmet missing the front visor guard, but the split pins were still there. Go figure :scratch:

The rank of Unteroffizier (between Gefreiter and Sergeant) always wear EM cokades!

Feldwebel and Vizefeldwebel (Unteroffiziere with Portepee) are wearing the special pattern with silver single ring at the middle.

I think that Unteroffizier HUHNSTOCK (born 1888) wore this Pickelhaube during his active duty in peace time, ca. 1908-1910.

At the mobilisation, he may have been recalled in the JR95 but in the second company. So we find him in the Verlustlisten as missing, late 1918. He was then a Vizefeldwebel with the fonction of an Offizierstellvertreter.

Excellent find. Congratulations. Visor trim will be fairly easy but you may have to buy many pieces to find a fit. The wappen will be the real problem. I have been looking for JR 97 for 10 years. Perhaps easier to find in Europe?

Alan, these great markings and name tag certainly justify the purchase of this incomplete helmet!
