Saxon Kurassier Helmet

Every once in a while an astounding piece will turn up on Ebay. These helmets were worn at Borodino and Leipzig 1812-1813 among other major battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Although the condition is poor, virtually everything is still on the helmet except the visor which I presume to be a separate leather piece with brass trim - easily replaced. I bid, but half what it sold for as I just don't have the time (or the resources) right now to restore something like this so I'm sure it went to someone who knows what to do to bring it back to life. Really amazing piece of history that anticipates the restoration of Saxony as a kingdom after 1815. In researching this, it appears that the same helmet but with a different cypher Maximillian Joseph versus Friederich August on the crest was subsequently used by the Bavarian Garde du Corps.

Wow, Nacuaa,

That is a truly stunning helmet.

I can see how owning a Saxon Heavy Cavalry helmet from the Napoleonic Wars would be a centerpiece.

It does indeed look repairable.

Bryan.
