Schirmmütze: jaeger or mod. 17?

Hello.

I'll like to have some opinions about this schirmmütze.

Jaeger or model 17?

The tradition badge is missing. If it's a jaeger cap it must be the "Karpathenkorps" insigna but if it's a model 1917 I suppose it can be anyone? It's possible (quite sure) that the cockades have been changed... so it could also be a brunswick cap? The insigna was hold by two vertical brass prongs (see last picture).

Thank you!

Its actually called a Model 1916 Einheits - Mütze. The Einheits - Mütze usually are made from a darker Feldgrau/green wool than previous patterns, with dark green bands and piping that matched the collars on the Model 1915 Bluse. Bayern (Bavaria) did not wear green collars on their Bluse, so Bayern Einheits Schirmmütze and Krätzchen are made completely out of Feldgrau material, without a different color cloth for the band and top piping.

The Jäger green band and piping is very green, as in the drawing below. As well, the top is Graugrün (grey green). Except for Bavarians (naturally!) who used a Feldgrau (field grey) top. I wonder if your cap was an IR92 or HR17 Einheits - Mütze? Interesting!

According to Kraus the introduction of the Einheits-Dienstmütze mit Schirm was decreed via a Kriegsministerium Order of October 1917. By this time, gray, non-leather visors, chinstraps and gray painted side buttons had been around for over a year. Of course, there were still black visors and chinstraps being purchased on custom pieces, but this cap may well be a postwar Stahlhelm example that has had something taken away and some cockades added.

The Stahlhelm veteran's organization used caps that were the same colors as the Einheits-Mützen. Something to consider.
