Francis,

Wonderful little museum which I used to visit quite often. I was working just a couple of kilometres up the road in Sennelager.

I recall some nice caricatures of the officers of Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 5. The former officers' mess dining room of HR 8 can still be seen in the Schloß.

Regards
Glenn

Yes Sennelager ! We went there a few years ago for training our men on transport missions with roadblocks and all kinds of incidents....Fine Training Area...Always great to work with the British Army.

Nice! Thanks for sharing! We just came home from Guetersloh, just north of Paderborn, and even drove past the city. I didn't know about this Schloss, it will be worth visiting next time we're in NRW!
In the area we've visited Wewelsburg, a nice Burg in Bielefeld and Schloss Vornholz (thanks for posting corrected spellings!). Also, if anybody is ever in Bielefeld, going to the Bauermuseum outside of town in the Tuetenburger Wald, there is a BEAUTIFUL Garde Uhlan uniform in their Bauerhaus, Wow, what a surprise finding that up in the Dachboden! There was an old gent who showed us through the house and it belonged to his friend's grandfather (his friend gave it to him... I want a friend like that!) Unfortunately, the light was poor and the photos are blurry, but it was worth seeing.

Very nice place to visit apparently.
Couldn't help notice the WWII Regimentsfahne, what did they do with the swas?
Was it just covered? If so; how did they proceed?
cheers

Didn't notice the missing swas on this Fahne....I was sweeping the stables ...you know. :o
We were close to the Wewelsburg, this will be for a next visit as well as the magnificent Schloss Vornholz Kav Museum.(we went there before....but it is like Fort de la Pompelle near Reims...it's like a magnet.)
Perhaps an idea to arange a small meet ...
A spacy van anyone ?
Wewelsburg, then Vornholz, one nightstop, then perhaps Halen on our way home ??...
rgds,
Francis

Indeed it is. The Burg was intended to become the Ordensburg of the SS. Complete with a special spot to keep the Totenkopf rings of the fallen SS members. I wouldn't specialy go to Germany for the Wewelsburg, but when passing by, ok.
