This is a nice picture. He is wearing the uniform of a Prussian. However, look at the national cockade -- there is no ring?!?!

Joe: A very nice photograph. The prince is wearing the Prussian Leib-Cuirassier Regiment No. 1 uniform. The special kokardes and chinscales are unique to that regiment. If you have The German Cavalry from 1871 to 1914 by Herr & Nguyen, see pages 232 and 233 for good photos of the helmet and the "wavy"kokardes with the off center hole.

Well thank you R1! I had never noticed that difference. In addition, I had never noticed that the chin scales were also different until I read the reference you cited specifically. Excellent reference, the only complaint is that it would break my arm if I had to take it down again! That book weighs a ton!
