SOLD: 10th Pioneer Battalion Unusual Pickelhaube for Sale

Offered for sale is this very nice condition 10th Pioneer Battalion Pickelhaube.

The helmet has unusual characteristics:
The visor trim and the back spine are the enlisted style.
The spike base is enlisted style with no pearl ring on the neck of the spike.
Spike is non-removable and has the officer line on the spike.

I found this helmet a number of years ago and it came without any chinscales, rosettes, or kokardes.

The wappen has threaded screw posts. There are No extra holes in the helmet body behind the wappen.

I posted the helmet on the thread found here:

I will post photos of what the helmet looked like when I found it without the chinscales, kokardes and rosettes. The photos will show that the helmet was not made for M91 side posts. You will also see how dirty the wappen was, and it had verdigris on it as well. I decided to clean the wappen after Bruno's encouragement and instructions. I cleaned the wappen with real fresh squeezed lemon juice and an old toothbrush.

Price:

Payment via PayPal is ok. I prefer "friends and family".

USA Postage: $20 via Priority US Mail with Tracking.

European Postage (Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, UK, etc.): $70 via 1st Class International Mail Parcel with Tracking.

Australia, New Zealand and Singapore Postage: $80 vis 1st Class International Mail with Tracking.

Thanks,

Alan

I totally agree with Amy a BIG congratulations on both parties it's a rare beauty(y)(y)

I know it was incomplete, but I do love the look of it in the rough before the cleaning. I'm constantly torn between cleaning helmets I find in the wild or leaving them as found with only a very light dusting and cleaning.

Hi John,

Normally I would leave a helmet uncleaned. But in this circumstance with the wappen having a large amount of verdigris on it as shown in the bottom photos I posted above, I did not want to risk damaging the wappen by leaving the verdigris and other residue on it. The fresh squeezed lemon juice worked fairly well for cleaning. I believe that I still prefer my old stand-by product of suddsy ammonia, and I think it would have worked quicker and easier to clean the wappen versus the lemon juice. Just my two cent's worth opinion.

Best Wishes,

Alan

I finally got it.
Nothing to do with Alan!!
I should have had it a week ago.
Never had a parcel that passed customs that fast, but then it went wrong.
Despite everything was correctly labeled and packed, the parcel went in a very different direction.
Alan notified his post office, because he is the sender and only the sender can ask for information.
Since friday 20 th august was the last up date I got about the parcel on 3 different parcel tracer information sites.
And then nothing happened anymore untill last friday when it was "redirected to a adress I would have given"....
But I was on the road and had no internet connection ....
Imagine my feeling when reading all this when I got home on saterday night.....keeping in mind I all ready lost 2 quiet expensive parcels , that ended without any solution or refund, not even apolgies....
And as a little extra, the usual postman was replaced to day by a new guy, and about one houre later then they usual do....
Good side of the story is, I had no taxes to pay ...so far....

Anyway, thanks a lot Alan, for the helmet and the extra work that went with it. I appreciated you concern and messages.

Thanks very much to Kris, and to all here for your nice comments!

I was very worried for over a week of time that there was something wrong with the helmet delivery and that Kris might not receive it. All sorts of thoughts passed through my mind, wondering if the helmet was damaged or stolen in transit.

I have personally witnessed several packages I have mailed out to customers here in the U.S. over the past several years being miss-sorted by our U.S. Postal Service. We are all human and can make errors. We also know that 100% accuracy is vital to the service of the postal service. The last helmet that Brian worked on for me was incorrectly diverted for about a week's time, due to miss-sorting by the U.S. Postal Service when the helmet re-entered the U.S. on its way back to me. It was no fault of Brian's. Someone at the U.S. Postal Service miss-sorted the package and sent it in the wrong direction once it left inbound Chicago customs.

I am also very glad that I purchased a heavy duty cardboard box to use to send the helmet to Kris. He showed me a photo of the box when he received it today. The lower corner side of the box was dented in quite heavily. I am so very thankful that I used lots of bubble wrap packaging around the helmet, along with filling the box tightly with packaging peanuts in order to make the helmet and the box less prone to damage such as what actually ended up happening with this box being damaged in transit.

Thanks again Kris!

Best Wishes,

Alan

Hey Alan,

as I said before; packaging and labels where ok.
Nothing to blame you.
Even postal code before or after the town name is no issue.
You did well.
