Has anyone encountered this kind of Spike connector before? Maybe it is the picture but the bolt seems kind of thin for this age of helmet doesn't it? I'm sure it's real but there are some things quite odd. A scalloped cockade -- the Wappen is missing part of a bandeau. All pretty interesting.
 
I have seen this kind of connector on a 1915 officer's Tschapka, used to affix the removable metal mortarboard. It included an aerator.
