SOS Saxon Pickelhaube Mystery

Joe,

I just looked through the 1894 Saxon Officers' Dress Regulations and the ONLY matching combination of same coloured shield and star is that of Landwehr and Reserve Officers. They should, however have also worn a Landwehr Cross.

Although not clearing up the mystery it does corroborate Rühl's plate.

Glenn

Glenn,

I don't know. Perhaps sometime after 1894 the Landwehr stopped wearing a cross? Perhaps there was a period of time when there was no cross? It certainly is a mystery and I thank you for looking it up. This is a 1902 Ruhl.

Yesterday I entered in discussion with the University of Texas Germanic department about finding a graduate student to translate the Wehrordnung into English. It would make it easier on me -- just have to see how much it will cost. If that happens I'll send you a copy.
