Spanish Navy Sun Hats

These were a recent addition - I bought these from Bill Combs (of course) at the MAX Show. A pair of Spanish Navy sun hats from the 1920s to early 1930s. What is fascinating is that Spain had been among the earliest to adopt sun hat/helmets in the Philippines in the early 19th century and those were wicker. Eventually this evolved to pith and cork, but by the 1920s Spain was back to the simple straw weave again!

The Jaime I was a battleship and the Monturiol was an experimental submarine. Both hats were made in Barcelona.
