Spikes you said....?

Hey Francis,
glad I got it!
Along with the chained NSKK dagger.
Had a small wish list for the on going Herman historica sales, but that is history now. :-&

What a vicious piece! How long is it and what does it weigh? Can it be used with one hand or does it need two? If two, it can't have been any easy weapon to use at close quarters.

Really a modern day vicious instrument based on a medieval model...the mace. A good choice of weapon, when dealing with the confines of a trench. Rather ironic that trench warfare of WW 1 produced different pieces of protective gear (helmets) and offensive weapons based on medieval examples. In reality there are only so many ways to protect the vital parts of the body and more ways to kill the enemy. I would leave further comment to those of our members who have actually experienced combat.

Thank god for a helmet if you get this against your head
Altough i dont think it would be helpful a helmet when you look at the spikes
That is a cool piece :thumb up:

It must have been quiet a shock, thinking your living "the modern times" and been confronted with a medieval arsenal....
The mas weights 4.9 kg and measures 1.20m, heaviest parts is on the top (of course), so no great balance.
The handler must have been a strong guy! Using it with one hand must have been extremely hard, but adrenaline makes you do things you wouldn't expect....when needed.

Must have been a strong guy...... uh you meen a giant
Seems this could be used by horsemen .its long enough to stike a person from a surton hight
Deffinitley a great piece

1.2 m that is a 2 handed weapon and intended to be used by a man on foot not a horseman in my opinion. It does give you the ability to keep the enemy at bay like an axe would. Then there is that spike at the end, obviously to stab.
