Perhaps it has some really nice markings but $ 711 :-k

There certainly are some issues with that one. It's an easy restoration, but that's beside the point as far as I'm concerned. I don't care for all of the extra holes (the plugged ones might be from a different Dragoon Regt. ???? ), but the closely spaced ones suggest a civil plate to me. Repurposed? Who knows. Might even be a fake stamp? Again, who knows... The spike doesn't look original to me. IMHO, that's a chunk of change for too many unanswered questions. On the other hand, if gently restored, it would display well.

And the wrong spike, moreover...

BIA VII "F" markings, obvious conversion to M15. Swiss Cheese front. BIA VII has no Dragoner Regt according to Laine. Too many questions and too much energy wasted in justifying them.

Yup. Did you notice the front and rear visors are fiber? That BIG support plate inside could be hiding a whole mess of further problems... more of what Brian calls Swiss Cheese.

Brian I cannot see the pictures however, I would offer two alternative thoughts on the marking. First the source that you are quoting only shows the start of the war allocation. Remember the BIA was for repair at any later point in time. Second remember the initial headgear of half of the JZP regiments. =;

Thanks Joe, obviously you are correct, Laine only goes to 1914 and does not account for the massive expansion of the wartime army. i will have to think more before commenting next time.
