Hello. For me it's not B.A.L. but B.A. I. It's the point after the one who makes it looks like a "L".

Bonjour. Le marquage est à mon avis B.A.I., c'est la jonction entre le point et le "I" qui donnent l'apparence d'un "L".

This marking has me a bit confused, I have not seen the Roman Numerals with a point after them as in B.A.I., but I agree that it is not an L, as there should be a point after a letter. B.A.I would be East Prussian, but did the Bavarian B.A.s use the point to differinciate themselves, i.e., does the B.A.I. mean Southern Bavaria?

Yes, I agree with Chas. This is the store for the Bavarian. So it is good with this helmet. However I don't like the last "I"....the ink has been altered or...

Let's wait for another one later.

Hi Eric:

The seller also writes:

ON DISTINGUE LES MARQUAGES SUIVANTS:

20.I.R. 1912 ET LE CHIFFRE 55 (SUR LA NUQUIERE)

Infanterie Regiment 20 (Prinz Franz), raised in 1897 and garrisoned in Lindau, was part of the 1. Armee Korps.

I see nothing wrong with the helmet.

Bon chance,

Chas.

So I am to understand that B.A.I is East Prussian and B.A.I. is South Bavarian?
Gus

If the helmet were Prussian, the marking B.A.I. would signify the clothing office for the First Prussian Army Corps located in Rothenstein.
The helmet in question is Bavarian. Therefore, the B.A.I. marking in a Bavarian helmet signifies the clothing office for the first Bavarian Army Corps located in Munich.

There is a good illustration of the B.A.I. marking in a Bavarian 2nd Schwere Reiter uniform on page 29 of The German Army in the First World War by Jurgen Kraus. You will notice in this photograph that there is a "." after the "I".

Okeydokey, works for me, I had not seen or noticed the period after the roman numeral before.
