31 May 2011 is the 95th anniversary of the Skagerrakschlacht (Battle of Jutland.) To commemorate this critical naval battle, the only clash of titans in modern history, two items for your viewing interest.

A wartime Kaiserliche-Marine Seeoffizier Schirmmutze. Click HERE.

Both could very well have been on the High Seas Fleet 95 years ago this evening. Enjoy.

That is very impressive, especially when one thinks of the price of scrap brass, and how many times this could have been sold for a few Marks, when a crust of bread was more important than history.

Very nice and incredibly clear stamping! Great history work too :D

Yep the SMS Seydlitz took quite a pounding both at Jutland and the Dogger Bank. Returning from the battle, the ship had to drive backwards for some tine because heavy flooding had forced the bow below the water line.

Very nice pieces of history, but was the shell casing delivered via regular mail?

Regards,

Edwin

Nice stuff Tony although I was expecting to see some mummified naval German captain still wearing his uniform.

Now you need to find the cannon that fired the shell :)

Don't encourage him Ron, anything is possible with Tony, it could very well be on order or is in transit as we speak! Congrats T...another reason for me to visit and drink your wine!

I remember seeing this same cap online before. A very nice and rare piece of history indeed.

That is one big ashtray Tony :D

I known that has been on your hit list for a long time, I look forward to seeing it someday in person, maybe after I am done supporting my kids....

Very interesting! And I thought my 105 casings from my tank time were large. Dwarfs compared to this one!!!

:D Ron
