Did anyone catch the series The First World War? It is restarting on the Military Channel, and just came out on DVD in America and the UK.

It was very interesting. Some great period footage too. I love these kinds of shows. I would say this series ranks with The World at War.

Sorry...I posted this message. I didn't realize I wasn't logged in at the time.

Very interesting series anyway!

Hi Peter:

Is this the series? If so, I purchased it from Borders last week. Episode One was excellent.

That is the one. Brilliant series from start to finish. I truly enjoyed it!

Companeros,
This is a great series. Im a high school history teacher and have plans to show this in class. The chapters on the the Ottomans and the relationship in between the Germans/Austrians were unique and informative.

Sorry, I didn't see your topic & started a new one !!

Yes, in my opinion, it's the best account of the Great War since the CBS
series of 1964-65, and probably even better. I'm fascinated by the mobile
war on the Eastern Front, of which there's spectacular footage. Didn't
know that gas warfare actually began in that theatre in 1915 !!

I often wonder, while watching each episode, if one of my pickelhauben,
with it's former user &/or Owner, have been caught on camera.

Chas- thanks for the link, I just ordered it!

James

I also received the book, which this is based on, for Christmas. It is very enjoyable. It has some great color photos from WWI as well.
