The wonder disk

I had a good chuckle this morning. Randy, who wrote the forward for the Neumann / Müller catalog book got the first version of the scaned disk of Neumann yesterday. He calls it the "wonder disk". So I'm not the only guy who thinks it is pretty cool. Unfortunately I have to rescan the entire thing as page one bled through page 2 etc. as you can see here. I'm on pg 23 out of about 130. I have to keep the scans pretty "close hold" until they do this book but at least one other person thinks this will be a treat.

Hey Joe,
When you said the one page bled through to the other I thought you ment shen it was being printed, When I lloke at it, I was so excited by the material on the front of the page, I did not see the bleed through, Before you go to the trouble to re scan the whole thing, you need to find out if it can even be done, perhaps the job can be done with photo shop easer than a re scan. Now that I know what you were talking about, it stands out like a sore thumb, but I still think that it would be a graet refferance even with the ghost for the next page..

We tried looked worse. Not only do I have to scan but crop and straighten too. I paid to have them done, now I'm doing it myself. So if I can misspell a scan.....

Hi Joe: Why not cut a white paper backing the same size as the page. When scanning a particular side ie this one with the hussars busbies, put your white page over the back side. This should eliminate the bleed through. A thought anyway...Brian

Hi Joe: Very nice catalog. If Brian's idea does not work try putting very dark gray or black paper behind the sheet you are scanning. I have had pretty good luck with that when scanning thin newsprint type paper. The dark paper keeps the scanner light from going through the paper and reflecting off the underside of the scanner cover.

R1 Your idea is what I have been doing. It is VEry slow go. I'm up to page 30. Then I have to crop and straighted. It eliminates MOST of the bleed. I'll get it done.

Joe: If you can tape the dark paper to the underside of your scanner cover it may make things go a little faster. I use a piece of black construction paper large enough to cover the entire scanner glass. Having the paper fixed to the scanner cover makes for one less thing to adjust. I feel your pain, I recently had to scan about 200 pages with similar bleed through problems. It is a very slow process.

You know this idea never crossed my mind. Thanks. You are right one less thing. :sign3:

Hi Joe:
A question which shows my lack of knowledge on this issue. This original Neumann catalogue is going to be republished in book form? If so when and by whom. How much? The value of one of these to a collector is obvious!! Brian

Brian, Janet and I are compiling the Müller and Neumann catalog into one paperback B&W volume published by Authorhouse. Forward is done (2 paras) Intro is about done (3 pages) and the scans of Müller are done. We have to do a very little to the Neumann scans. It is a reprint with no captions just the raw pages. Müller is 80 pages, Neumann about 120. Book should be roughly 6"x9" .

This is not a money making deal but rather an attempt to share our good fortune in having these. Seriously we will be lucky to break even. Of course there is a small chance that the catalogs could end up on the NY Times best seller list.

This should all get mailed off this week and I expect availability in about 4 months. Price point is a darn good question. We will try to price it to cover our costs and do a little up front cash for book #2 which is well under way. I am thinking in the $28-$30 range. I would love your (or anyone's) feedback on the entire idea. :toothy2:

Mine would be that I believe you will sell a lot of these, certainly everyone here and also on debay and ebay. The roughly 6"x9" seems too small though? Standard magazine size would be much better. Regardless, I am looking forward to getting a copy.

Good feedback but that is basically the original size. I do not want to stretch the scans. So...... What do you think of the price?

Ah-so. I thought perhaps you were reducing it. Price seems fine to me, I will be getting one for sure.

Put my name on the list also Joe...an autographed copy...Janets' name first though!! This will be an excellent resource. Good luck on the project, Brian

Hi Joe,

I am glad to see you are making headway - a great idea.

If you're keeping a list, count me in.

Cheers,

Laurie
