At first glance it appears to be an officer's helmet, but...
There are repairs/patches behind the plate.
The plate is a large eagle of officer quality, not the smaller type for an issued Tschapka.
The Rabatte has white cord trim like an enlisted helmet, yet the top edge is metallic tape as seen on officer helmets instead of black leather.
There's a metal hook for the caplines, rather than the typical Knebel an enlisted Prussian man's issued helmet would have.
The caplines are white cord like an enlisted man would use, not silver wire with black flecking for an officer.
The liner is the enlisted type with squared-off tongues and a drawstring, not a scallop-edged leather band with a two-part cloth upper section.
The scales attach with rosettes, not M94 posts.
The Kokarde has a ribbed silver ring with a dividing line in the ring, instead of a one-piece stamped Kokarde.
Is it possible for an enlisted man's helmet to have a Rabatte with white cord trim and metallic tape around the top?
There's a period photo of a man wearing what appears to be a helmet like that on kaisersbunker.com.
Is this a collector-modified item, or an original piece that calls for modification of the conventional wisdom? :-k :-k :-k
