I think Gus was having a bad day. :-? I see nothing wrong with any of these items. The cap has an interior with fine papercloth stiffening and a piece of civilian cloth for a lining. Both, I think, are typical of wartime manufactured items, and yes these caps were still being made during the war.
Wartime officer's tunics could have breast pockets. It was not unusual at all and was pretty much up to the tastes of the individual.
The photo you show is of Germans, not Austrians.
I do agree that the shovel is not of the period.
