I need to make something to display an Ulan Überzug. That or find a well worn Ulan helmet that I can use.

I had the same problem. At first I thought about a plastic spiked helmet. But they are made for carnival and for modern heads, and are too big for an old Überzug. Now I have bought a cheap spiked helmet, without an eagle, lining, etc., just with spike. It fits perfectly and doesn't cost a hundred euros.

Hello,
you can also take a cheap fireman's helmet, attach a spike and that's it. In fact, this was done as part of a mobilisation to make up for the shortage.

Yes. In J-L Larcade's Volume One- page 112. And his article he wrote in 'Gazette des Uniformes'.
#4: Fort de la Pompelle. A fire brigades helmet: adorned with a....wooden...spike...J-L Larcade remarks: "this piece of headgear has a Kokarde for a Superior NCO...but doubtful that a Prussian Feldwebel would have ever worn a helmet like these..."
