What do you opinion ?

The body has the liner edge on the outside, turned like a Pickelhaube liner; also, the visor has stitches visible.
Is it perhaps a variant style, or a wartime expedient re-worked spiked helmet shell, or a modern assembling of an old helmet shell and an old mortarboard?

In fairness, he only has one neg out of 47 total; the 66% is for the past 12 months only.

But it's true, the photos could be better.

What about this one?

Hallo?

"The bird is the only original part used; the remaining parts (shell, strap, Kokarde, field badge, Knebel, liner, etc.) are of recent manufacture, but exhibit some artificially induced signs of age and wear." (sic)

Guys,
This is Pointy's helmet and he does mention it's all repro except for the birdie... (Pointy is one of us :army: )

A very nice work of reproduction due to a high interest with the process of helmets building, congratulation mister Pointy!

I just wish Brad that you would get a stamp made and stamp on the underside of your liners "BRAD-WERK" or something. At some point you know someone is going to flog your work as original.

I considered having a stamp made up with Firma Quatsch und Blödsinn, but markings can be modified, eradicated or even used in claiming an item is an original (Q & B...oh, yeah, they made helmets for the Kaiser...)

Modern materials and construction techniques make it impossible to pass these replicas off as originals if the person looking at them has read a good reference book, studied originals, and/or learned from collector forums.

If the big bucks shelled out on the auction sites for obviously bogus items is any indication, some collectors are simply victims of their own willing (and obstinate) suspension of disbelief:

The filz Tschapka on eBay is okay for a display item, but it's nowhere close to "right." Polyester thread, no stitches on the mortarboard top, etc. Put it under UV light and it'll glow like a Christmas tree.
