After waiting almost 2 years for the updated books with photo supplement, the new Kraus books are ready to ship. I ordered mine from Verlag books, not cheap, but a great referance.

Only wish they would have made an English version!

I chose EL cheapo postage and mine arrived yesterday. three volumes and you will need a forklift to pick up the box. Something about modern printing that compresses the air out of the book pages. These are heavy. The really pleasant surprise and something I did not realize was that the third volume is much larger than the first two and is a volume of pictures. Photographs. It will take me quite some time to go through this but this looks to be the reference. Not cheap and the postage was significant.

I am halfway through paging through the picture book. They are extremely clear and all sorts of rare photos. And there is lots of stuff I have chased after but the good news is there are some things that we have shown that are not in the book.

I was pleased to find a picture that I have also in the book! There are duplicates of these photographs everywhere but there is a good explanation for this one I think Peter might have this photograph in his book also.

I stayed with the original company. I made sure I was only paying the old cheapo postage rather than that quick crap they promised. I want to say the whole bill came out to just over $300.

WoW.

Really nice collection of pictures. A little bit of everything. There are lots and lots of things that I would call anomalies such as a train officer with flat M15 Chin scales. Lots of things I do not have. A JZP in a Kurrasier helmet. Two lovely scroll pictures.

While this is massive -- as large as the other huge books such as the German army -- there are still a few things and anomalies that they do not have. Nonetheless, this is well worth having rather than spending an amount trying to get the same postcards. I considered these books however to be so heavy that they are difficult to manage. If this is a coffee table book you need a very stout coffee table. Really really nice and well-organized.

Well mine showed up today! Mailman was gasping for air trying to lift them, they ae heavy!

Volume 1 and 2 looks exactly the same as before as expected.

But Volume 3 the photo volume is incredable, must have.

Will take many enjoyable hours to go through.

I thought that the volumes 1 and two were supposed to be updated. I posted this in another thread.

By the way, James and I discussed the Kraus books and I am not so sure how different the two volume set is. I don't have access to the old set but James had the impression that there was really no change just a reprint. Now the photo volume you would really love. My major complaint again is that this damn thing is so heavy it is very hard to work with. They should have made this at least two volumes. I understand the printing and mounting costs but these weren't cheap in the first place.

I have not gone through in extreme detail Volume 1 and 2 to look for changes, but so far have not seen any.
