I am one of the guys looking at it.

Looks like he sewed on either a dark EM front visor or a black visor off of a fireman's helmet.

I agree with Brian. I think that this was originally a Saxon helmet. As a Bavarian it is completely wrong, no cruciform base, not a fluted spike, appears to be an enlisted Wappen on an officers helmet, etc.

I have seen black undersides on private purchase helmet front visors but they are most often on enlisted versions. They are more rare than the green version but they do exist.

I think that the Kokarden are also reproductions, especially the national Kokarde.

Actually I think that this helmet could be "brought back" if you got an original Saxon officer Wappen and Kokarden. Everything else appears original. You would always have to contend with the double holes.

If the price were right, which it is NOT, I would consider restoring it.

I 100% disagree with you. Except the Saxon plate . I am with you on that .

The whole helmet looks to be an Officer's with a EM front visor with EM trim and it is black that has been attached .

Looks to be a parts helmet that was put together what ever was available.

He did not align the stitch line when re reattached the visor. ( unless it is not even sewn on )

The chinscales are from a larger helmet as well. But they do look original.

I saw this one too and took a look at it. To me it looks like a total mess that's not even worth considering.

I didn't pay attention to the chinscales being too large for the helmet. I just thought that was because the front visor was not attached.
Here is a photo of an enlisted, private purchase helmet, also Saxon, with the wide trim front visor. The underside of the front visor is black lined, not green.

The Kokarde is very unusual on this helmet and I wrote about that on this thread:

Here's another:

Looks pretty legit except possibly the serrated Kokarde --- even if it is from England.
