Nice picture, I always liked shrapnel-proof bird houses. I guess it is meant rather humorous but after WWII you actually saw steel helmets converted to all sorts of buckets, pots, kitchen strainers etc.

When the US went to the kevlar helmets, a surplus store in Utah acquired tons of US steel pots, one of the things they ended up selling them to be used as was feed buckets for calves at daries. I picked up a nice Japanese helmet form a neighbour (with a hand painted rising sun) when the Vet's wife told me she was going to drill a hole in the top and make a planter out of it, or let the grand kids paint it camo and use it to play. When I told her that it was a rather valuable helmet, she told me to take care of it.
