Hey Guys ,

What is this ?

A firemans helmet ?

I kind of like it. :D

Tastes can be very different - I find it a particularly ugly helmet :D! I can't tell you anything else about it than that googling on "Wienerwache" I found the following pic of a Wiener police helmet, the helmet itself very different but with exactly the same spike as the one on ebay. This suggests that the ebay specimen is indeed from Wien/Austria, that it is not a police helmet and thus, indeed, may very well be a fireman's helmet.

Since different cities / regions often used different plates, it could be either police or fire. IMHO. I find it to be 'interesting'... However, if it proved to be from a city I'd visited in Austria, It might become 'cool', rather than 'interesting'. :wink: ('interesting', a polite form of 'somewhat ugly, but not quite that bad')

Yes, no crown so post WW 1 and fire or police . It is a piece of History but not really in our common interest on this forum. However, hopefully there are collectors out there who are buying there pieces and preserving them.
 
I've not been able to find a city crest matching the wappen... maybe from a factory or some sort of company for their private security guards or fire company? I thought the woven iron (steel) strips on the bottom might be a clue, but alas, no luck.

Helmets are like women: as long as they give the user satisfaction, their looks don't matter! :D :D :D
